About the Author

Hi! My name is Ben Scott and I'm a seasoned IT professional and entrepreneur. I live in the Greater Vancouver region of British Columbia, Canada, and I have over 15 years of industry experience, wearing just about every hat in the software development lifecycle: Quality Assurance, Test Automation, UI/UX Design, Front and Back end development, Product Ownership, Project Management, Tech Leadership and Engineering Management.

I've worked at Electronic Arts for 7 years, with nearly half of that time in leadership roles as both a Front End Tech Lead and Engineering Manager. Over the course of my time at EA, I've lead multiple teams of automation engineers and tools developers, built code generators to allow non-technical QA to automate the testing of EA's franchise websites, and architected the entire automation ecosystem to support daily releases for their new EA app.

I started my career in 2007 as a Quality Assurance Specialist, working for Nokia prior to its collapse at the hands of Apple's iPhone. During that time, I was also self-employed as a freelance web designer for several years, building websites for clients using Drupal and Wordpress. I eventually left Nokia to run my own social enterprise startup aimed at pairing community projects to local professionals (via LinkedIn) who had the skills to help those projects succeed. I spent those years focused on User Interface (UI), User Experience (UX), and Front End Development, designing the entire application, and pitching it to the City of Vancouver (including the Mayor), and multiple investors, but the startup ultimately failed to find the funding it needed to succeed.

Soon after, I learned how to code and was lucky enough to land a gig with a local Vancouver startup where I built an entire application from back to front using Ruby on Rails and AngularJS. When that startup also ran out of money, I landed my first job at Electronic Arts as a Quality Engineer. From there, I quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a Full Stack Engineer, a Front End Tech Lead and a Software Engineering Manager where I directed the efforts of 25+ Quality Engineers.
